John Mulaney has detailed wife Olivia Munn’s mind-blowing resilience after she lost ‘a lot of blood’ during a surgery at the height of her cancer battle.
The comedian, 42, took to the stage to present his spouse, 44, with a Woman of Impact Award at last night’s InStyle’s Imagemaker Awards, in recognition of her activism in women’s health following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2023.
During his emotional speech, John recounted how Olivia had bravely expressed that she was determined to not to let her battle with the disease ‘hang over’ their lives.
He said: ‘We were in the hospital for Olivia’s third surgery in September 2023 and she had lost a lot of blood during her second surgery, so we were both a little nervous.
‘She said to me, “I just read this book about Jackie O. Jackie O. never got over her husband being killed.’

During his emotional speech at InStyle’s Imagemaker Awards, John recounted how Olivia had expressed she didn’t want her battle with the disease ‘hang over’ their lives
‘I said, “No, I get it, it was a big deal.” She said, “She always regretted that she didn’t move past it.”
‘She said, “I’m scared, but I’m taking all of this and I’m not going to let it hang over our lives. I’m moving past it.”
‘I thought how lucky our kids are to have you as their mother, how lucky I am to have you as my partner in life.’
Olivia was initially diagnosed with luminal B breast cancer in both breasts in April of 2023.
Since then, she has undergone five surgeries, including the full hysterectomy and full double mastectomy.
‘We learned a lot from it,’ John continued in his speech.
‘We learned she would need five surgeries. We learned there was a risk of lymphedema.
‘We learned that if we had not caught it when we caught it, things could have been a lot worse.

‘I also learned it’s not pronounced “masectomy,” it’s pronounced “mastectomy”.
‘It has a T in it. It shouldn’t. It should be “masectomy.” It’s ironic that the word itself has a part that should be removed, I think.’
Olivia and husband John recently became parents of two – the couple welcomed their second child together, a daughter Méi June Mulaney who was born via surrogate last month.
The couple also share two-year-old son Malcolm together.
Earlier this week, Olivia showed off her mastectomy scars as she took part in a powerful new ad campaign for Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand.
She wore no top as she posed with a scar visible on her left breast.
The star opened up about her health ordeal in video taken for the campaign, telling the camera: ‘Someone said this phrase to me, and it meant a lot and it really touched me.
‘When it comes to breast cancer, welcome to the worst club with the best members.’
‘My name is Olivia Munn and I’m a breast cancer survivor,’ she continued.
‘When I look at the scars or how my breasts look different or how clothes fit on me differently, I just feel a lot of gratitude.
‘The way my body looks is just a representation of how hard I’ve fought.’
