New Hampshire fishermen smash state record by snagging insane 1,116-pound bluefin tuna
About a month ago, I wrote a story about a record-breaking bluefin tuna caught off the coast of San Diego.
That monster weighed in at nearly 500 pounds and probably could have fed a small village.
Now imagine you caught another fish the same size and combined them. You would still be more than 100 pounds short of the absolute mammoth that was reeled in off the coast of New England this past weekend.

According to local ABC affiliate WMUR9, fisherman Brandon McGirl boarded the “Out of Line” of Savage Charters NH with Captain Jamie Savage on Saturday, not expecting anything out of the ordinary.
“It was very difficult conditions to try and fish. It was a little bit rougher than we were hoping for,” McGirl said.
Just as they were about to call it a night, they heard the all too familiar sound of their reels whirring.
Then, it was game on.
According to McGirl and Savage, they chased the tuna for over a mile, but dragging the bad boy into the boat might have been the hardest part of the night.

“We lifted it out of the water and immediately knew it was way bigger than what we thought and bigger than anything either of us had seen before,” Capt. Savage said.
The final number was staggering: 1,116 pounds, over 150 pounds heavier than the previous New Hampshire record holder caught back in 2013.
“If you tuna fish for long time, to catch a 1,000-pound fish, is, I mean, it’s something that you dream of,” McGirl said.
The pictures, provided courtesy of Capt. Savage, are almost too insane to believe.

Both men in the shot are dwarfed by the bluefin, and the fish is so big it hardly fits in the boat.
