“A referee gets tough because he’s got a whistle. Screw these guys. Like at least the guys in the, at least the guys in Major League Baseball, just big fat guys that wallow around. Now, I think every ref should be suspended for the conduct of others. I hate them, I hate refs, I hate umpires, I hate officials, I hate all of them.”
The National Football League is seemingly getting with the times.
The league rescinded its fine against Jameson Williams for his apparent smoking celebration after the Detroit Lions wide receiver argued that “marijuana is legal.”
Recreational marijuana is legal in Michigan, where Williams plays his home games, along with 23 other states and Washington, D.C.

Williams, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs did the celebration together in a game against the Bills in Buffalo, where recreational marijuana is also legal in the state. The trio were each fined $14,926 and $11,941.
“Although I rescinded this fine, please make every effort to celebrate with your teammates in the best professional manner possible,” appeals officer Derrick Brooks wrote, according to the NFL Network.
Williams’ teammates have yet to hear back on their appeals.

The NFL used to suspend players for repeat positive marijuana tests but dropped it in 2020.
Several celebration fines have been rescinded in recent weeks, including Kyle Juszczyk’s drinking celebration after he said he was drinking juice, not beer. His nickname is also “Juice,” which fans chant in unison on his big runs. The fullback, though, also made it a point that a fine for a beer-drinking celebration would be hypocritical, given the league’s sponsorship deals with alcohol brands.
Williams has been fined numerous times for specific gestures and taunts – nine times, to be exact. Those fines have cost him $140,686.
