Scottie Scheffler’s caddie details conversation about potential $1 billion LIV Golf offer, why he’d decline
Scottie Scheffler recently took over the top spot on the PGA Tour’s career money list with more than $130 million earned. It’s fair to say that the 30-year-old who has already taken home $10 million more than Tiger Woods did in his career is doing just fine financially, but as his caddie, Ted Scott, recently explained, it’s not all about the money for Scheffler.
Scheffler became the No. 1 player in the world in March 2022, amid LIV Golf’s efforts to lure players away from the PGA Tour, and just three months before the then Saudi-backed circuit’s inaugural event.
Scott began caddying for Scheffler in November 2021, and having been in the partnership for less than six months at the time, he was still very much in the feeling-things-out stage with his new boss, but one conversation very much set the tone.

“When I first started working for him, he was 19th in the world, and he had a white golf bag,” Scott said, referring to Scheffler, on a recent appearance on PGA Tour Radio. “I didn’t know him that well, and I asked him, I was like: ‘Why don’t you have sponsors?’
“He’s like, ‘Well, because I just want to play with the equipment that I want to play.’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’ And then I remember whenever all the LIV stuff was going on, you know, he was number one in the world at the time, I didn’t know, but I said, ‘They’re probably going to offer you like $250m to go over there.’

“And he says, ‘I don’t care what they offer me. They can offer me a billion dollars. I’m going to play where the best players are because I just want to beat people.'”
Scott went on to admit that it was at that moment he realized just how differently Scheffler is wired.

While Scott already had a stellar resume as a caddie before joining forces with Scheffler, having been on the bag for both of Bubba Watson’s Masters victories, he and Scheffler have turned into a two-headed monster over the last half-decade.
Scott has been on the bag for each of Scheffler’s 22 PGA Tour wins, dating back to his first in February 2022, plus the four major championships Scheffler has won at this point in his young career.
Scheffler earned just shy of $31 million on the PGA Tour in 2026. With caddies typically earning around 10 percent of a player’s earnings, on the low end, Scott likely earned well over $3 million this past season on Tour.
