Tom Selleck opened up about his experience on the set of Friends.
On Friday, the 79-year-old actor — who appeared on ten episodes of the hit sitcom between1996 and 2000 — claimed he had a ‘lovely experience’ and still has positive memories from the show.
He took on the role of Dr. Richard Burke, Monica Geller’s love interest — who was played by Courteney Cox.
The Emmy Award winner told Parade Magazine, ‘People talk to me about my role on ‘Friends’ all the time. It was a lovely experience, something I didn’t see coming.’
He revealed that parts of the show’s script were improvised and claimed that showrunners were so fond of his performance that they invited his back for various other appearances.
‘[The showrunners] just explained this idea and you had to make a leap of faith. They didn’t have a script or anything,’ he said.

Selleck continued: ‘I remember I was supposed to do three shows, and on the third show at the table read, somebody said, “Oh, that’s right, this is your last show. I wish you could come back.” I said, “Well, nobody asked me.” So that turned into ten shows.’
The actor also showed interest in pursuing roles in future comedies.
When asked if he’d be willing to appear in another comedy, he replied: ‘I would love to do another comedy. The right kind of comedy.
‘Friends made people laugh and cry at times. That’s the kind of comedy I enjoy doing. Three Men and a Baby had that, too.’
The Detroit, Michigan native has recently starred as Frank Reagan in the CBS police drama Blue Bloods — which was cancelled after 14 years on-air, in October.
Selleck added that he would be open to appearing in a spin-off series one day, admitting that he loves his on-screen character.
However, he is yet to receive an offer from the TV network.
The acting veteran — who also previously in the 2007 crime drama movie Jesse Stone: Sea Change — said: ‘I’m open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked.
‘I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere. If he goes off to a small town, I’d rather do more Jesse Stone movies.’
Just weeks ago, he opened up about feeling ‘frustrated’ after the shows out-of-the-blue and sudden cancellation.

Despite boasting an impressive 14 seasons, the actor claims there is still more to the story and that the ending was missing key elements to the show’s plot.
In an October interview with TV Insider he said, ‘I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.’
‘In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were number 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re #6!’ he said.
Selleck added, ‘My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.’
