It was all celebrations for the Mumbai Indians camp after the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side beat the Gujarat Giants to win by 47 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to take them through to the final of the 2025 Women’s Premier League season on Thursday.
As MI secured the win, even stars from the men’s team, like Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, were in the audience to witness the side get to their second final.
It was a dominant display by MI, who set the tone with the bat in the first innings. Both Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 77 runs each to help the side get to a mammoth first-innings total. Harmanpreet Kaur provided the finishing touch, scoring a quickfire 36 off 12 balls to set a target of 214 for the Giants.
The total was too much for the Giants, who let their lack of experience in the playoffs get to them as the batting unit struggled to keep their chase in check. Matthews now starred with the ball, picking up three wickets and also taking the purple cap, as the Giants were bundled out for 166 runs in the process.
Coming to the men’s team, the skipper will have a point to prove in the coming season of the IPL. After finishing at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in the 14 league-stage games, the star all-rounder will hope to take the franchise back where it belongs.
With a star-studded Indian core with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Pandya himself, it will come as no surprise if the franchise finds themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot.
With additions like Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar, amongst many others, the side is certainly a force to be reckoned with in the coming season.
They will open their campaign with an away fixture against their arch-rivals, Chennai Super Kings, at the Chepauk Stadium on March 23 (Sunday) later this month, and the Pandya-led side will look to make a statement right from game 1.
Meanwhile the women’s team will look to rest up and prepare themselves for what will be a replay of the first season’s finale and MI will look to once again come out on top.
